New stamp marks 100 years since first Latvian parliament

Marking the 100th anniversary of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, a new postage stamp and an envelope will be issued on October 20, Latvian postal service (Latvijas Pasts, LP) said Monday.

The stamp and envelope "symbolically indicate confidence in our country's greatest values – freedom, independence and democracy", said LP.

The nominal value of the new postage stamp is EUR 1.20, which corresponds to the payment of correspondence of letters up to 20 grams in the territory of Latvia, with the postage stamp issued in 25 000 copies. A special envelope will also be issued with a postage stamp in 800 copies. The author of the design is Arta Ozola-Jaunarāja.

The Saeima of the Republic of Latvia celebrates an important anniversary this year – 100 years since the first meeting of the 1st Saeima, which gathered on November 7, 1922, 12:00. With the meeting of the parliament, the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia also entered into force.

The stamps and envelopes will be available in the largest post offices, as well as the LP e-store.
