"Shortly after 7:00 p.m., on the A10 highway (Riga-Ventspils), in the direction from Riga to Jurmala, employees of the Special Tasks Department of the State Police recorded a Yamaha motorcycle rider who passed the police crew at 160 km/h at where the permitted speed was 90 km/h. Law enforcement immediately responded to the reckless motorcycle rider and, turning on the lights and special siren, drove after the motorcycle to stop it," said police on their Facebook account, which carried in-car footage of the chase.

Instead of puling over, the illegal racer hit the throttle and reached speeds well over 200 km/h and continued to ignore orders to stop. Eventually he was involved in a collision which resulted in a concussion but – luckily for him – nothing more serious by way of physical injury.

When he was eventually arrested it was discovered that the unnamed individual, born in 1992, did not have the right to drive a vehicle was sitting at the wheel of the vehicle. The State Police initiated four administrative violation proceedings: for exceeding the permitted driving speed, for driving without a driving license, for disobeying the orders of police officers (while fleeing) and for causing a road traffic accident.
