Drug dealer group busted in Rīga

The State Police (VP) detained a group of three people selling drugs in Rīga in late October, police said.

On the night of October 25, three young men born in 1997, 2001 and 2004 were detained in Rīga. All persons were transported to the Riga Centre of Psychiatry and Narcology for expert examination, then placed in an isolation cell.

During a total of ten searches at detainees' residences in the Imanta district and central Rīga, as well as several cars, officers found and seized 70 grams of cocaine, 55 pills of MDMA, 4 pills of Xanax, 2 pills of unknown origin, 1,050 grams of marijuana, scales, a pistol-like item, and cash - €4,940 and £100.

Several cars have also been seized: a Porsche Taycan, a BMW X5 and an Audi A7.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated in relation to what has happened, in accordance with Section 253.1, Paragraph three of the Criminal Law – regarding unauthorized acquisition, possession, transport, or transfer of narcotic or psychotropic substances for the purpose of sale or for unauthorized sale of narcotic or psychotropic substances, if it has been performed by an organized group or if they have been committed with narcotic or psychotropic substances in large amounts.

Deprivation of liberty is provided for in the law for a period of five to 15 years, confiscating property or without confiscation of property, and with probation supervision for a period of up to three years.

If, after the results of the expert examinations, it is concluded that persons have driven cars under the influence of narcotic or psychotropic substances, the criminal proceedings will also be classified as such crimes.

The detainees have not previously been on police radar.
