Drug dealers detained in Rīga

State Police (VP) officers detained two men last Thursday, May 9, and seized large quantities of drugs and psychotropic substances in several searches, along with cash of €4,080 and two cars, police said May 13. 

On May 9, VP employees in Rīga, the Pļavnieki micro-district, detained two men born in 1974 for allegedly selling narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Five searches have been carried out in criminal proceedings – both at the residence of persons and in cars. In total, nearly seven kilograms of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances - more than one kilogram of synthetic crystals, nearly four kilograms of amphetamine group narcotics, as well as marijuana, synthetic heroin and isotonitazene, which is a powerful and particularly dangerous synthetic opioid - have been seized.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the unauthorized distribution of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in large amounts. The commission of such a crime shall be punished with deprivation of liberty for a period of time from 5 to 15 years, confiscating property or without confiscation of property, and with probation supervision for a period of up to three years.

Both persons have been placed under detention by the court. The individuals had previously come to the police's attention for such and similar acts, police added.
