According to the indictment, the two defendants at their residence in Rēzekne Municipality, under the influence of alcohol, entered into a mutual conflict over Justīne because they could not handle the girl's upbringing and care.
The defendants, aware that Justīne was also with them at that point, who was in a state of helplessness because of her age and could not physically resist the violent acts against her, began shouting at the girl and deliberately punching her body and head, inflicting grievous bodily harm on the girl that led to her death.
In an attempt to hide the traces of the offense committed, the girl's body was concealed in the basement of an abandoned home and the accused misled State Police and the public over Justine's disappearance.
Both persons are currently still in custody, which was imposed on them as a security measure.
The prosecution reminded the public that all are considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with legal procedures.
