Camp organizer charged with fraud

State Police (VP) has completed an investigation into small-scale fraud: organizing camps for mothers and daughters, but failing to provide the service. 29 residents have suffered from this crime. The camp organizer has been placed on bail, State Police said on January 23.

Submissions were received at VP Jūrmala station from 29 victims who had transferred money to a woman for participation in camps for mothers and daughters but did not receive the promised service. Those camps were supposed to take place in August, September, and October last year, but they took place only partially or not at all.

While customers asked the camp organizer to refund the money, it was not paid in most cases. As a result, various amounts of money – from 50 to 100 euros – had been defrauded.

The camp organizer was identified as the suspect in the case. On November 2 last year, she was detained by VP shortly before she had planned to leave the country.

The suspect has been placed under detention.
