The State Police (VP) have captured an organized group of drug dealers in the vicinity of Rīga, the police said July 28.

The operation was carried out in cooperation with the Estonian law enforcement authorities, the State Revenue Service, and the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau.

The VP has seized about 23 kilograms of methamphetamine-containing substances, a barrel with methamphetamine oil, and marijuana. Arrests have been imposed on suspects' assets of more than half a million euros.

Criminal proceedings regarding the purchase, storage, sale, and moving across borders of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances in an organized group, and the laundering of criminal funds or other property, were initiated in autumn 2022.

On July 3 this year, a total of four persons were detained: men born in 1980, 1982, and 1985, and a woman born in 1980. One of the detained persons has been previously sanctioned for the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs.

Information at the disposal of the VP shows that suspected persons have long been associated with drug trafficking, and have been supplying drugs to other European countries, including Scandinavia.

At the end of June, Estonian police identified a hideout in Estonia where they stored narcotic drugs. A total of 21 packages, or 23 kilograms, of white-colored powdered substance containing methamphetamine, a barrel with amphetamine oil, and five grams of marijuana, were removed. 60 bottles of a volume of 0.7 liters of alcohol with excise stamps of the Republic of Belarus have also been seized.

The police have also seized money obtained most likely illegally of around €110,000, six cars, five of which are luxury vehicles, a variety of jewelry, and luxury watches.

Currently arrests have been imposed on the movable and immovable properties of suspected persons worth more than EUR 500,000.

Three of the detained persons have been identified as suspects. Investigations are ongoing.
