Man shot dead in Pļavnieki, Rīga

On Friday, March 11, around 14:43 a man was shot dead in the Pļavnieki neighborhood in Rīga, said the State Police.

The victim was inside a car in a parking lot by a catering company on the intersection of Saharova and Keldiša Street. After the victim was shot, the alleged perpetrators left the scene, said the police.

A spec-op plan was implemented throughout Latvia and extensive police forces were involved, including the State and municipal police. Several suspects have already been detained. Experts are currently working on the site. A burnt Chrysler Voyager car was found in Dreiliņi, which could also be linked to the crime.

The police have identified the victim but have yet to name him.

“The police are drawing attention to the fact that there is no reason for concern among the population. The State Police continue work, and at the same time we call on residents who have any information on what has happened or see any suspicious activity to report immediately to the police by calling 110,” the police said.
