Asked what the situation is regarding the allegiance of VP employees, Ruks said: "On the situation in the country with the loyalty of the police, I think everything is fine... There are no pro-Kremlin people and the like in the police. It is clear that there can be different actions, manifestations, which create perhaps some kind of image and inflame each other, but we monitor and control it internally. I think that during the previous year everything has been made quite clear."
Ruks also pointed out that the general discipline of the police has improved. Namely, in 2021, one police officer was caught in connection with corruption, but in previous years there were more than 10 such cases. However, the beginning of 2023 in this regard "signifies not a very good case", said Ruks.
"We must continue to work, we must continue to fight. Because besides corruption there are other professional crimes. It can be abuse of official authority, use of unreasonable force, disclosure of undisclosed information, inaction and similar manifestations. It all needs to be ended. That's what we're doing," noted the police chief.
Staffing has been a challenge in the police over the last year, as many have left the force and there are a large number of vacancies. Efforts are being made to find both necessary financial support and conduct internal reorganization, thereby reducing the reasons why people leave the service, Ruks maintained.
