November 18 fireworks will only be seen in two cities

Only Ogre and Ventspils will host fireworks on Latvia's independence day – November 18 – but elsewhere in Latvia there will be various illuminated environmental installations, multi-medial laser performances, and light shows, according to information compiled by the agency LETA.

Festive fireworks in Ogre will take place at 19:00 on the bank of the Daugava near the “Ogre lighthouse” (Ogres bāka).

You will be able to watch fireworks in Ventspils at 20:30 at the Great Square.

This is not to say there will be no more fireworks, but none are organized by municipalities and local governments.

Participants of the festivities in Rīga will be able to watch the group of objects “River of light” along the city's canal from 18:00 to 23:00. At Arkādijas Park from 19:00 to 23:00 the audio-visual media installation “Touch of light” will be on display. At 20:10, with repeats, there will be a multimedia laser performance above the Freedom Monument.

In Daugavpils, Vienības Square, at 17:00 as a contribution to the 105th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, the Latvian national anthem “God bless Latvia” and a laser show will be performed.

In Jelgava, starting 17:00 on Jelgava St. Trinity Church Tower there will be a 3D multimedia story “Jelgava – Star of Zemgale”.

In Jēkabpils, at Kena Park Hill, from 17:00, there will be an environmental installation.

In Jūrmala, starting 15:30, lights will illuminate the road between Lielupe Bridge and Ķemeri, as well as on Jomas Street.

In Kuldīga, 17:00 to 22:00 the Latvian flag will illuminate the hub of Venta.

There will also be smaller light installations in Ropaži, Aizkraukle, Balvi, and Smiltene.
