1,010 new Covid-19 cases confirmed Tuesday in Latvia

On Tuesday, October 5, Latvia returned to having more than 1,000 new cases of Covid-19 infection confirmed in the previous 24 hours. According to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) 1,010 daily cases of Covid-19 infection were added to the total. 

Of the positive cases, 785 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 225 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 163,130.

Of 15,385 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 6.6% were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants continued to rise steeply from 600.6 Monday to 627.9 Tuesday.

Sadly, there was also confirmation of 14 more Covid-related deaths. All of the deceased were aged over 50 years. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 2,757.

With the infection wave continuing to strengthen, the level of hospitalizations continues to be a focus of attention. According to the latest available figures there are 633 people being treated for Covid-19 symptoms in Latvian hospitals, of which number 64 are displaying serious symptoms.

The epidemiological situation in all three Baltic states continues to be a cause for concern. In Estonia 896 new cases were recorded and Lithuania recorded more than 1,500 cases during the last 24 hours.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv/.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme. All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia.
