August begins with 36 Covid-19 cases in Latvia

On Sunday, August 1, Latvia reported 36 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 138,899. 

Of 8,329 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 0.4% were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose from 38.9 Saturday to 39.1 Sunday.

No Covid-related deaths were confirmed, so the death toll since the start of the pandemic remains at 2,556.

The number of patients being treated for coronavirus symptoms in Latvia's hospitals rose from 42 on Saturday to 44 on Sunday, according to figures from the National Health Service. Of that number, 8 patients are classed as having serious symptoms.

Meanwhile in Estonia 128 new Covid cases were registered Sunday and in Lithuania 184 new cases were recorded.

There is a Latvian language hotline 8989 which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv/.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
