The highest daily figure remains the 1,861 cases recorded on December 31, 2020 and the previous second-highest figure was just 24 hours ago.
Of Thursday's positive cases, 1,406 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 346 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 166,553.
Of 19,929 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 8.8% were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants leaped again from 680.5 Wednesday to 732.1 Thursday, which is the highest figure since the start of the pandemic, surpassing the rate of 693.9 from January 10.
Sadly, there was also confirmation of 10 more Covid-related deaths. All of the deceased were aged over 50 years. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 2,783.
With the infection wave continuing to strengthen, the level of hospitalizations continues to be a focus of attention. According to the latest available figures there are 653 people being treated for Covid-19 symptoms in Latvian hospitals, of which number 66 are displaying serious symptoms.
The epidemiological situation in all three Baltic states continues to be among the worst in Europe. In Estonia more nearly 1,000 new cases were recorded and Lithuania recorded more than 2,000 cases during the last 24 hours.
