Briģis estimated that the number of cases of Covid-19 has increased slightly in Europe over the last week, but the increase is modest, by around 5%. “At low total morbidity, such small increases in trends do not yet indicate anything,” said the professor.
Briģis said that the prevalence and rapid spread of the type of Covid-19 Omicron show that it is still dominating, so there is reason to hope that we will not be in “new, big trouble” in the near future. He also noted that the virus can change its properties at any time, so no guarantees are possible.
In Latvia, the number of Covid-19 cases fell by 11.7% in the previous week, while there was a 20.4% increase in hospitals.
