Take note – story published 2 years ago

Another 1,500 cases of Covid-19 infection were added to Latvia's total on November 17, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

In all 1,501 new cases were recorded during the last 24 hours. Of that number, 970 cases were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 631 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 243,340.

Of the 12,059 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 12.4% were positive. One small piece of good news is that the 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population dipped below 1,000 from 1,058 Tuesday to 994.4 Wednesday. The last time that indicator was below 1,000 was on October 13.

Sadly, however, 79 more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed, the highest death count in a single day since the start of the pandemic. One of the victims was aged under 40 years and one was aged 40-49. Ten of the fatalities were fully vaccinated individuals. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 3,875.

Wednesday data show 1,185 patients being treated in hospital with 204 patients displaying serious symptoms.

Meanwhile in Estonia over 1,000 new cases and 7 deaths were reported during the last 24 hours and in Lithuania the figures were over 2,100 cases and 19 deaths.
