Just a couple of women's jackets and a couple of baby jumpsuits - that's all that's left in the warehouse.
“They call Monday and I sign them up for Friday. Then they come. There is no sign-up now because there is nothing to offer them. Some live nearby and then they drive and look for something we can help with,“ said Tatjana Illarionova, a spokeswoman for the charity warehouse.
Warm winter coats, boots, gloves, hats, scarves are all needed/ Men's winter clothing is badly needed, the warehouse said. Blankets and duvets are also required.
So the “Ziedot.lv” fund is launching the “warm clothes days” campaign, which will take place this weekend.
“As we can see here, clothes are available that are the thin summer clothes, but it's cold outside and the snow has fallen uncharacteristically quickly... Both the impoverished population throughout Latvia and the war refugees from Ukraine are two large target groups to help,” Illarionova said.
Such an event takes place for the second time, and donor activity was high last year.
“We faced a very high level of responsiveness last year and there were occasions where a father and son came past the stand and I already watched the son had a coat a little too small. Not half an hour goes by and the family comes back and the son has a new coat and the old coat- clean and washed - ends up back in circulation. 100 tonnes of winter clothing were donated. Really high quality jackets, boots. In fact, within a month, all these 100 tons went out to Latvia and were handed over to the addressees,” Rūta Dimanta, head of Ziedot.lv, told LTV.
Residents can donate warm clothes at shopping centers Spice and Akropole Alfa between 12:00 and 18:00 on December 9 and 10.
