Take note – story published 7 years ago

The number of missing people is on the rise in Latvia. Last year the police and volunteers were looking for 900 people.

Missing people statistics by year:

2013 - 814

2015 - 730

2016 - 900

The Bezvests.lv (Missing.lv) organization said the more and more of the people missing are adults who don't really want to be found.

They have been helping to locate missing people for nine years now and have 150 members. They have found 80 missing people throughout the years.

"What's positive is that the minority of people are people who go missing due to crime-related activities. We're talking, of course, about murders and similar violent crimes. [..] About the most common cases, we have to mention people who purposely lead a life where they don't always tell their relatives where they've gone," said State Police representative Dairis Anučins.
