Virtual three for the weekend in Latvia: Music, bar crawl and brain training

Take note – story published 4 years ago

The social distancing and self-isolation continues, but that doesn't mean your only option for weekend activity is (decreased quality) Netflix and chill. Everyone is adapting to the new normal as the government mulls over extending emergency measures - the Culture Ministry has created a calendar of over 100 online events, and LSM.lv has released a downloadable calendar of children's activities for every day in April. Check out our picks for making the most of the weekend downtime!

Tune in to the “Laime pilnīgā” concert

The group's name translates to “Complete Happiness”, which you'll hopefully feel while tuning in to their concert during Tvnet's third “3S Lockdown Sessions” live concert series on April 3 at 7:00 p.m.. The rock group was founded in 2006 and has released several albums, and their latest EP “Atoms” was released in fall 2019. Tvnet plans to stream two live concerts every week on Tuesdays and Fridays with technical assistance from the company 3S.

Support your local bar

Latvia has passed a law temporarily allowing the online sales of alcohol during the state of emergency, so several local bars are taking advantage of this situation to deliver signature cocktails and provide DJ music online. Omas Briljants is hosting a cocktail masterclass while dj all-viss and PM2THEAM provide some tunes; B Bar is ready to deliver margaritas to your door, which you can sip while you tune in to their bartender show and listen to sets by Dj Uvis and JDanevics; and local breweries Labietis and Ziemeļu Enkurs are also offering to deliver beer to your doorstep for your virtual cheers (we recommend the Houseparty app for this).

Keep your mind sharp

With all the down time it can be easy to sink into the couch and turn off and tune out, but luckily there are also some fun ways to keep your mind sharp. Prāta Spēles (Mind Games) is offering an online version of their pub quiz for a 3 euro participation fee on April 3 at 6:45 p.m.. If music is more your thing, Melomaniaki is offering a free online game “Melomaniac's Breakfast in Bed” on April 4 at 10:00. Meanwhile if your mind needs a different type of outlet visit 7 Cups, the 'world's largest emotional support system' that has free 24-hour chat with trained listeners.
