LVĢMC warns that on Monday, January 22, persistent formation of ice layers is expected in the central and eastern territories of the country. The warning is in effect until 20:00.
On the coast of Kurzeme and along the Gulf of Riga, an alert has been issued for strong southern, southwesterly winds, which may increase in gusts of up to 20-22 meters per second.
Meanwhile, Riga City Council has indicated that on January 22 and 23, pedestrians and drivers alike should be very cautious as the ice layer is forming rapidly, and as the rain continues, it is emerging again and again.
Residents whose properties are fitted with sidewalks can receive 50 kilograms of free sand for scattering pavements. This also applies to residents whose properties are at the sidewalks which are cleaned and scattered by the municipality this winter.
Riga Municipal Police is carrying out increased monitoring to warn managers and building owners about the removal of icicles.
