Over the last day, water levels have fallen by more than half a meter. Since Saturday morning, when water levels reached the highest mark in the Daugava near Jēkabpils in recent decades, it has fallen by more than 1.2 meters.
On Tuesday at 5 AM the water level at the Jekabpils observation station was 7.67 meters above zero point. The highest water level - 8.92 meters - was reached on Saturday at around 9 AM.
The LVĢMC has not yet canceled the red alert in the Jēkabpils municipality, it has been announced for the time being until 14:00 on Wednesday, January 18. The orange warning still applies at the Pļaviņas water reservoir, and in the rest of the country the yellow warning is in force about high water levels in rivers.
The mass of ice in Jēkabpils is almost unmoving, while ice movements have been observed at Zeļķi and Pļaviņas.
