The Latvia-I bobsleigh crew led by Oskars Melbardis won the final stage of the World Cup competition in Sochi Sunday, establishing their place as the sport’s best athletes this year.

The four-man bobsleigh team improved its record on the start of their second run, cementing their place atop the winners’ podium again. Russia’s Alexander Kasyanov won the silver, and Germany’s Maximlian Arndt came in third.

Melbardis, together with partner Daumants Dreiskens, also won the gold medal in the two-man bobsleigh competition. He is the fifth driver in history to earn both honors in one season.

The four-man crew also includes teammates Daumants Dreiskens, Arvis Vilkaste and Janis Strenga.
