After the match Ostapenko said: "[In the] First set I was playing pretty well, very confident. Second set she started to play good, served better. I missed a little bit like unforced errors. And then third set I played good, I think," according to the WTA website.
She previewed her Wimbledon appearance in this video interview.
In the second round Ostapenko will play young Canadian Françoise Abanda. Meanwhile Sevastova will have to take on the British crowd as she battles local favorite Heather Watson.
But there is more Latvian action July 4 with the always-entertaining Ernests Gulbis taking on Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic.
