Latvian volleyball team advances to latter stages of Euro Championships

The Latvian men's volleyball team has finished in fourth place in Group D at the European Men's Volleyball Championships, and will advance to the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time ever.

In the final group matches last night, Latvia needed Germany to defeat Slovakia and France to defeat Estonia. Germany defeated Slovakia 3:2 and France defeated Estonia 3:0.

Thus, Latvia finished in fourth place in its group and will travel to Ostrava in the Czech Republic to play Italy, which finished in first place in Group B.

In the other final matchups, Ukraine will play Russia, Germany will play Bulgaria, Poland will play Finland, France will play the Czech Republic, Slovenia will play Croatia, Serbia will take on Turkey, and Portugal will play the Netherlands.

In the final Group D standings, France finished in first place with 15 points, followed by Germany with 11 points, Croatia with seven points, Latvia with five points, Slovakia with four points and Estonia with three points.
