Ostapenko earns season's first win

On January 30, Latvia's second-best ranked woman tennis player Alona Ostapenko defeated France's Kristina Mladenovic 6-1, 0-6, 6-0 in the opening round of the St Petersburg WTA Premier series tennis tournament.

This was the first win of the season for Ostapenko.

Ostapenko, who is currently ranked 22nd in the world, has earned 55 WTA ranking points for advancing to the second round of the St Petersburg tournament, where she will take on world number 32 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia.
