Ostapenko finishes as runner-up in Miami Open

Take note – story published 6 years ago

US Open champion Sloane Stephens won in straight sets 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 to win her first Miami Open title and while Ostapenko's game started well, her barnstorming style failed to pay off in the second set when Stevens gradually asserted control.

Aļona (Jelena) Ostapenko lost to American Sloane Stevens in the final of the Miami Open March 31, with unforced errors costing her dear.

Nevertheless, Latvia's 20-year-old number one and world number 5 Ostapenko has got the new season off to a good start, racking up ranking points and showing yet again that it is only a matter of time before she adds to her French Open title.
