Roadworks in Rīga will not be completed by end of summer

Street and road repairs in the capital have started later than planned this year, so some sites will not be in order by the start of the new school year. Some roadworks will be continue until the end of the year, Andrejs Urtāns, head of the Riga City Council's Traffic Infrastructure Department, told Latvian Radio program "Domskaja Ploščadj" on August 14.

He promised the city council would do its best to disrupt traffic as little as possible.

Urtāns said that there are many projects and each project has a contract deadline depending on its size, "of course, we try to finish most of them by September 1 to facilitate traffic as much as possible".

However, some of the big projects might be finished a little later, and some individual projects might be in order by the end of the year, the council spokesman said.
