RB Rail AS, the joint venture responsible for constructing the Rail Baltica high speed rail link across the Baltic states, has announced the names of the companies still in the running for its 'Control-Command and Signalling (CCS) subsystem Design and Build' procurement.

Five candidates have qualified for the next round of the procurement process: GTS Deutschland GmbH (Germany), Hitachi Rail STS S.P.A. (Italy), an association consisting of the companies Indra Sistemas, S.A, AŽD Praha S.R.O (Spain and Czech Republic), an association of “SKGN Baltics” with the participation of Siemens Mobility OY Latvian Branch, Siemens Mobility GMBH, GRK Suomi OY, NRC Group Finland OY, Kontron Transportation GMBH (Latvia, Germany, Finland, Austria), and an association “ALSTOM – COBRA – FIMA” consisting of Alstom Transport SA, Alstom Baltics SIA, Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios S.A, PS “Fima KZA Krakow” (France, Latvia, Spain).

There's still a long way to go before any contracts are signed, though, with RB Rail saying this is likely to happen only in "the second half of 2025."

In related news, RB Rail has published an update on the progress of the project for all interested parties, which has fallen several years behind schedule. Titled 'Rail Baltica in Economic Focus' it is available in PDF form at the RB Rail website here
