Following the end of the emergency, some employees will no longer be required a Covid-19 certificate. Among others, teachers and other education staff will still need them. Latvian Education and Science Workers' Union (LIZDA) calls on the government to bring clarity and adopt concrete rules as soon as possible.
There is uncertainty about what will happen after April 1 for those working in the field of education, especially those who haven't been vaccinated until now. It is unclear whether they will be able to return to work if the Covid-19 certificate requirement is canceled.
The head of the LIZDA, Inga Vanaga, said: “Keep this employment environment under such uncertainty and constant stress, both physically and emotionally, more complicated, it is the worst thing that can happen at the moment, knowing how many different other problems need to be addressed by the educational establishment.”
According to the Ministry of Education and Science data of February 13, there are currently more than 2,500 employees of educational institutions without a Covid-19 vaccination or recovery certificate.
Discussions on whether the requirement for a Covid-19 certificate for education workers will remain after April 1 are ongoing. Currently, experts in the Operational Manafement Group assess epidemiological and other risks. The political decision will depend on the solution they offer.
