Invitation to 'Celebrate Nature' and help clean it up

On Friday 20 and Saturday 21 September the 'Liela Talka' (Big Cleanup) organization is inviting Latvian residents to celebrate nature by participating in a 'World Cleanup Day' event.

"World Cleanup Day is included for the first time this year in the UN calendar of internationally observed days... Globally, the World Cleanup movement, represented in Latvia by the Big Cleanup movement, is putting a special emphasis this year on ecological problems... here in Latvia let's emphasize the situation of the Baltic Sea, which is the most polluted sea in the world," say organizers.

"What can be done for the World Cleanup? You can plant your own Tree of Happiness, clean up the sea or the water body closest to you, carry out outdoor improvement works, stimulate discussion in your community for a green lifestyle, go on a hike with an educational, nature exploring activity, do a digital clean up of your smart devices, getting rid of unnecessary data and excess energy consumption in the global data "cloud", as well as to get together for informal singing in nature after cleaning," advance publicity suggests.

Activities can be logged on a map at www.talkas.lv and on Saturday, September 21, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., there will be a 'thank you' concert for everyone who participated in cleanup activities this year at Vecāki beach on the Baltic coast.
