Average speed camera attacked by unknown vandals in Latvia

On the Daugavpils Highway (A6) near Jēkabpils, vandals have tried to destroy the average speed control device, the state company Latvian State Roads (LVC) said July 11.

Thanks to the safety system of the machine, it was not damaged, with the average speed control stage working and the devices recording irregularities.

LVC has referred the criminal offense to the State Police.

A total of 16 sections of the national road network have an average speed control system in place and, according to preliminary statistics, the number of road accidents with victims has fallen by 38% in those sections, while accidents  with injured and seriously injured have fallen by 50%.

A further 17 phases of average speed control are planned to be installed on the state's roads soon.
