Latvia and Estonia to compare notes in Valga

The Latvian and Estonian Ministries of Foreign Affairs will hold their annual seminar in Valga County this year on 17 and 18 September.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Baiba Braže, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Margus Tsahkna, will open the strategic get-together organised by the Latvian and Estonian Foreign Ministries. The event is being held for the ninth consecutive year and aims to "strengthen bilateral relations between Latvia and Estonia, as well as their regional and international cooperation" according to a Latvian Foreign Ministry release.

"The seminar will bring together the leadership of the Foreign Ministries of Latvia and Estonia and experts from the Foreign Services. The agenda of this year’s meeting covers security and defence topics, in particular, support to Ukraine, Russia’s regular hybrid threats, NATO-related developments, the EU enlargement process and other pressing international issues. Latvia standing as a candidate for an elected member’s seat on the UN Security Council in 2026–2027 will also be discussed, this being one of the instruments in pursuit of the long-term objectives of Latvia’s foreign policy," said the release.

The seminar location alternates between the two countries each year.
