Cheerleading acrobats strut their stuff on Latvian TV

This weekend, more than 150 athletes from 16 countries will assemble in Jūrmala to participate in the acrobatic sports event "Baltic Beach Stuntfest 2024" and on August 16 some of the participants visited the Latvian Television studios to show off their skills.

Katrīna Rūtiņa, one of the organizers of "Baltic Beach Stuntfest 2024", said that cheerleading should really be considered a sport in its own right and it is not just a matter of girls with colorful pom-poms shouting encouragement for male athletes – there are both male and female cheerleading teams.

Among the partcipants in world champion Kollin Mark Cockrell from the US, where the sport originated. He told LTV that he had originally focused on weightlifting, but due to an injury, he had to leave the sport and looked for new paths in sport.

Cockrell believes that anyone can participate and improve under the guidance of a good trainer. For some it may take months, for others years, but either way it is a healthy and satisfying activity.

More information about the Baltic Beach Stuntfest is available here.
