Ticket control devices on Latvia's new trains finally working

All new electric trains in service have ticket control machines as of Thursday, September 5. While passengers get used to them, tickets will continue to be checked by controllers in addition to self-registration, said train operator Vivi.

Passengers will now have to register their tickets themselves instead of waiting for a person to come and check them. All new trains have ticket machines available and operational.

All passengers are required to register their tickets themselves starting September 5, regardless of ticket type, place of purchase, or ticket format.

The ticket control machines will recognize all types of paper and electronic tickets, including luggage tickets.

There are 16 ticket devices on each electric train. To register a ticket, the passenger must bring the QR code part of the ticket purchased close to the optical sensor located on the right side of the machine and wait for a confirmation message on the screen that the registration has been successful.

Changes have been made to the Vivi mobile app by increasing the brightness of the screen. Therefore, Vivi recommends to use only the latest version of the Vivi mobile app.

Train conductor controllers will also provide assistance in the registration of tickets and will carry out additional checks on all tickets during the transition period.

In the future, it is also planned to introduce additional control mechanisms to prevent breaches.
