All new trains expected to be in Latvia by end of July

The Czech company Škoda Vagonka has committed to deliver the remaining seven new electric trains by the end of July, Škoda Vagonka representatives told LETA on July 9.

The company noted that production is on schedule and that Škoda Vagonka is close to completing the assembly of five new trains in Latvia. However, the company's representatives added that there are indications of some supply problems from the company's suppliers for some components, but Škoda Vagonka is "actively managing the situation to mitigate the potential impact risks".

Latvian passenger train operator Pasažieru Vilciens/Vivi representatives confirmed to LETA that Vivi has so far received 25 of the 32 new electric trains from Škoda Vagonka. By the end of July, seven more electric trains are to be handed over,

Vivi started passenger services with the new Škoda Vagonka electric trains in December 2023. Before that, the trains were tested and trialed for a long time on the Latvian railway infrastructure. Despite this, the new trains experienced regular problems last December and in January this year. The first two electric trains manufactured by the Czech company Škoda Vagonka were delivered to Rīga in June 2022.
