airBaltic to lease aircraft to Lufthansa

Latvian airline airBaltic said in a release on September 13 that it is extending its cooperation with German airline Lufthansa Group for the next three years by leasing its aircraft to Lufthansa under a wet lease arrangement.

This agreement reinforces rumors that Lufthansa could be a potential investor in airBaltic.

The agreement will take effect in the summer season 2025, with airBaltic operating flights on behalf of the Lufthansa Group.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, said that aircraft leasing has become an important growth strategy for the company in recent years.

“This partnership is an endorsement of our wet lease capabilities and reliability from a well-respected international brand like Lufthansa Group. We are looking forward to a successful collaboration over the coming years,” Gauss was quoted.

The agreement provides for a three-year cooperation during which up to 21 airBaltic A220-300 aircraft will operate on behalf of the Lufthansa Group on its route network.
