Head of State Digital Development Agency chosen

An open competition for the position of director of the State Digital Development Agency (VDAA) has concluded, with the winner named as Jorens Liopa. The new director of VDAA will start work from October 4.

Currently, Liopa is the director of the Department of Information Systems and Technologies of the Judicial Administration and the head of the inter-institutional E-Case working group, where he coordinates the cooperation of the Department of Justice and related industry institutions and the implementation of ICT solutions.

Before that, Liopa held various positions in the Court Administration system and has received several important awards, including the Letter of Appreciation of the Riga District Court for significant contribution to the implementation of technological innovations, the Second Degree Letter of Appreciation of the Ministry of Justice for significant contribution to the development of the justice system and Latvian legal system, and others.

"Efficiency and sustainability in the field of ICT require a very clear vision and quick action, as technologies and solutions become obsolete very quickly. The state administration currently has a large ICT capability at its disposal, but it is clear that in the coming years it will continue to grow and require more and more funds, human resources and the improvement of their competence in order to provide citizens and entrepreneurs with the necessary state e-services," said Diopa of his new role.

"I see 3 basic values ​​as the basis of the national digital development strategy: the needs of citizens and entrepreneurs for e-services, useful, justified centralization of state administration resources and accumulation of competences, as well as the ability to be included in the implementation of EU uniform technical solutions and requirements, including in the field of AI, by implementing a national scale ICT programs," he added.
