Water levels in Latvian rivers start dropping

Water levels are decreasing in most Latvian rivers, but rising in the Lielupe river basin, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVGMC).

On Sunday, the water level in the Mūsa River near Bauska started rising faster, as the waters from the rains a week ago reached Latvia from Lithuania. The water level is also rising in the Lielupe River near Mežotne.

The water level in the River Svēte remains high.

In Kurzeme, Vidzeme, and Latgale rivers, water levels are decreasing or fluctuating. In the Gauja near Sigulda, the water level is still rising slightly, having increased by 1.2 meters since the end of July.

In the coming days, there will be short rains in many parts of Latvia, but rivers will mainly continue to see decreasing or slightly fluctuating water levels. Heavier precipitation is possible over the weekend.

Water temperatures in rivers, lakes and the sea are +16 C to +22 C.
