Bauska gives over EUR 300,000 for storm damage removal

Bauska municipality has allocated EUR 303 240 from contingency funds for the storm damage elimination, according to information on the municipality's website.

The amount will change after insurance claims are received. It is also planned to apply to the government for reimbursement.

On July 11, the municipality of Bauska was hit by heavy thundershowers and a storm that caused significant damage to the municipality's infrastructure, damaging and destroying buildings, cemeteries, and parks owned or legally owned by the municipality.

The municipality's experts have identified the storm damage to the municipality's properties and infrastructure and have estimated the costs of the aftermath.

The municipality contracted Vizii Urban Ltd for 31.4 thousand euros, including VAT, to remove trees that had fallen and broken down as a result of the storm from the streets and pavements.

The roof of the second floor of the sports arena of the Bauska City Stadium was completely torn off and the structures in the shot put and discus throwing sectors were damaged. Half of the roof of the referees' building was torn off, the handball court fencing and the chimney of the gas boiler house were damaged.

The building of the Pamūša Primary School was also damaged during the storm: the roof was torn off over an area of 280 square meters, the fence and automatic gates were damaged and the school's interior was damaged. 

In total, it has been decided to allocate EUR 303 240 to the municipal authorities of the Bauska municipality to deal with the consequences of the storm. Contingency funds will be restored to the amount of the indemnities received once the insurance claims have been received. A request for funds to cover the costs of storm damage will be submitted to the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development.
