Swimming not recommended in some places in Rīga

Based on test results, swimming is allowed in all official and unofficial bathing areas in Riga, however, due to cyanobacteria, swimming is not recommended in some places, and warning signs have been posted, the Housing and Environment Department of the Riga Municipality said August 13.

Of the eight official bathing sites, the Lucavsala Bay bathing site is not recommended due to cyanobacteria.

Of the 24 unofficial bathing sites where water tests are carried out, it is not recommended to swim in Ķīšezers near Cimzes Street and Steķu Street, in Juglas Lake near Tadenavas Street, in the Daugava River near Dārziņu 14 and in the bathing area opposite Latgales Street 320.

The official bathing sites are inspected by the Health Inspectorate, while the Department of Housing and Environment organizes monthly monitoring of water quality at 24 popular recreational areas near water bodies during the bathing season.

The municipality recommends using official bathing sites, as they are properly equipped and staffed by lifeguards from the Riga Municipal Police.
