Covid prevalence on slight increase in Latvia

In Latvia, the proportion of Covid-19 positive cases is gradually increasing in August, reaching 19% last week, so epidemiologists urge people to be responsible in summer and not to go out in public or to work with symptoms of respiratory tract infections.

In Latvia, a marked increase in the prevalence of the disease was observed in July, when positive tests accounted for 10% to 13% of all laboratory tests.

Epidemiological surveillance data from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) now show that the proportion of Covid-19 positive cases is gradually increasing. The number of hospitalized patients with a primary diagnosis of Covid-19 last week was 69 (mostly in the 70+ age group), with 3 patients with a severe course of the disease.

According to SPKC information, European Union countries have also seen an increase in Covid-19 cases since the beginning of the summer, attributable to the introduction of new sub-strands of Omicron variants, seasonal travel and holiday activities, more frequent human contact, and increased attendance at public events.
