More 'Home Cafes' will be opening their doors this weekend

This weekend, July 13 and 14, guests will be welcomed by a total of 40 home cafes in Dobele, Līvāni, Preiļi, Ķekava and Gulbene districts.

As the name suggests, Home Cafe Days sees regular homes transformed for a day or two into eateries, snack bars, restaurants, and other places to sample local delicacies and personal specialties.

"Farms, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts of local communities open their doors to guests on 'Home Cafe Days', bringing to their guests' tables the dishes that they do best and taste best themselves. The promotion 'Home Cafe Days' is a great reason to visit Latvia, making a significant contribution to the development of local tourism and introducing life in the countryside, while also supporting local entrepreneurs and strengthening the local community," says Inese Šīrava, director of the LIAA Tourism Department about the initiative.

"Home Cafe days in Gulbene district are a special and welcome event that allows you to get to know not only the area, but also our great people who open their doors and welcome the public to their homesteads, backyards, and farms. Interest in this event increases every year, on the part of both participants and visitors. The owners of the in-house cafes will have provided not only delicious and varied food but also musical performances, the opportunity to be inspired in a fabric dyeing workshop, short hikes, learning how to tie birch brooms in a master class, as well as participate in other activities,” says Džeina Apsīte, of the Gulbene tourism and cultural-historical heritage center.

At the end of June, on June 29-30, the first Home Cafe Days opened in Rēzekne and Ludza districts, welcoming more than 700 guests from near and far. As the calendar progresses, other parts of Latvia are following suit.

In total, more than 400 home cafes will open their doors to visitors this summer to treat guests to the specialties of their region or family. Before going to one of the in-house cafes, we invite you to register your arrival in advance, as well as to check how payments are made, as it is often a matter of cash only.
