Positivus coming to Rīga, Lucavsala this weekend

For many, this will be the long-awaited week of Positivus, the biggest festival in the Baltics. On Friday and Saturday, Lucavsala will host seven stages with performances by world stars, local musicians and a variety of unconventional musical groups.

The first Positivus in 2007 was organized by former classmates Ģirts Majors and Andis Zusts, as well as Linda Andersone, in the pine forest and on the beach in Salacgrīva, with no experience, but with a lot of enthusiasm. This will be the sixteenth festival. For the third time, Positivus will take place in Riga, Lucavsala.

"This year is more traditional. People often say about Positivus in Riga - it's youth, hip-hop and suchlik. This year there are a lot more bands that can be compared to when we used to do the festival in Salacgrīva. It's a very good combination with current pop bands - on Friday there are several hip hop artists - Americans, which is traditional in recent years, but it's all with Jacob Collier - even the classical music audience knows this jazz artist - unique enough," says Majors.

The only local artist to be featured on the main stage is rapper Ozols. The festival has also taken care of presenting the "Supernova" competition sensation, the young duo "Vēstulēs". A big show on the second stage is planned for the band "Citi zēni". The current bands "Viesulis", "Fiņķis" and "KautKaili" will also be performing.

The festival will pay special attention to Ukraine. Not only will several musicians from there be performing, but also the exhibition "Ukraine in Miniature" - models of famous buildings that were damaged or destroyed in the Russian attacks - will come to Lucavsala. They will be on display free of charge until July 17 at the Dzintari Concert Hall in Jūrmala.
