Latvia records good hockey win over Denmark

The Latvian men's hockey team won their second friendly match against Denmark on August 26 in Rīga, in preparation for the start of the qualifying tournament for the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy.

Latvia beat Denmark's ice hockey players Monday 5:3. On Sunday, in the first warm-up match, Latvia lost to the Danes 2:3.

Five goalkeepers, 11 defenders and 18 forwards are included in the list of Latvian national team candidates for the Olympic qualification tournament with coach Harijs Vītoliņš due to name the team for the qualification tournament after the test matches with Denmark. NHL players Teodors Bļugers and Elvis Merzlikins, as well as defender Kārlis Čukste, will not be available for the Olympic qualification tournament.

The Latvian national team will face Slovenia on August 29, Ukraine a day later and France on September 1 for a ticket to the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Only the winner of the qualification tournament will get a ticket to the 2026 Olympic Games.
