Latvian journalist among injured in Ukraine after latest Russian attacks

Four journalists, including one from Latvia, were injured in an attack by Russian forces on a hotel in Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, on the night of Sunday, August 25, the Rīga-based Meduza independent Russian media channel reports.

All the injured journalists are from the international news agency Reuters and include citizens of Ukraine, the United States of America, Latvia and Germany. As reported by Reuters, the "Saphir" hotel, where the Reuters team of six people was staying, came under fire from Russian missiles. Ryan Evans, a member of the Reuters team covering the war in Ukraine, was killed.

The information available to TV3 news on August 25 was that the injured citizen of Latvia is the independent journalist Viktors Sajenko. Sajenko's injuries are not life-threatening and the journalist has already spoken to his relatives about the incident.

Several surrounding houses were also destroyed.

The prosecutor's office of the Donetsk region has initiated a criminal case for war crimes for the attack on civilians.

Kramatorsk is about 20 kilometers away from the front and is frequently shelled by Russian forces with rockets, drones and artillery.
