Statehood award goes to charity head Rūta Dimanta

This year's Statehood Award was awarded to Rūta Dimanta, head of the charity organisation "Ziedot.lv", in a ceremony on August 21.

The Statehood Award recognizes a person who has made and continues to make an outstanding contribution to strengthening Latvia's statehood. The Statehood Award was presented by the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, at a solemn ceremony at the Riga Castle.

The President's website states that the aim of the Statehood Award, which was established by the association "May 4th Declaration Club", is to promote respect and understanding in society of Latvia's statehood and the social and political importance of strengthening it in the life of every citizen.

The President of Latvia is the patron of the Statehood Award.
