Woman caught going double the Latvian highway speed limit

Someone was in rather too much of a hurry to get home on Monday, September 9, which led to them being caught at more than double the legal speed limit in western Vidzeme.

Highway patrol officers clocked a fairly modest-looking Nissan Qashqai driven by a woman doing an incredible 186 km/h on a stretch of the main highway towards Estonia with a 90 km/h speed limit.

After a brief pursuit the offender pulled over and now faces stiff punishment. According to the Road Traffic Law, for exceeding the permitted driving speed by more than 70 kilometers per hour, she can be fined from 1,400 to 2,000 euros and deprived of the right to drive for a period of 12 to 36 months.
