Latvian Defense Ministry announces think tank tender

The Latvian Ministry of Defense is inviting think tanks to submit applications for participation in a competition "to promote research and public awareness on defense issues" the ministry said in a release September 4.

"Think tanks are invited to develop and submit projects that promote research, Latvian public awareness of Latvia's security and comprehensive defense, involvement of Latvian civil society in promoting resilience, or international audience awareness and understanding of Latvian security and defense current affairs," said the release.

Applicants can implement research projects providing analysis and proposals for Latvia's policy in such directions as strengthening Latvia's defense, using the lessons learned from the war in Ukraine; new technologies and opportunities and development of the European defense industry in the context of modern security conditions; promoting community resilience and preparedness; Strengthening NATO's deterrence and defense tools in the Baltics. 

Projects should be aimed at Latvian society by creating research, video or interactive materials, simulations, situation studies, debates, informative booklets, posters, contests, quizzes, training seminars and other creative efforts.

In addition, applicants can implement projects aimed at foreign audiences and Latvia's security and defense interests by creating articles and studies that could be published in foreign publications, media and other platforms. 

The maximum amount available for each project is 10,000 euros and the implementation deadline is March 1, 2025.
