Another 500 drones to go from Latvia to Ukraine

The Ministry of Defense has received another load of drones manufactured by the Latvian domestic industry for shipment to Ukraine. The next shipment will include 500 drones, the Ministry of Defence said in a press release on August 13.

The next shipment will include various types of combat drones.

In July, the Ministry of Defence announced the start of the delivery of drones to Ukraine within the Drone Coalition initiative, with a total of more than 2,500 unmanned combat systems of various types planned for delivery to Ukraine.

To ensure continuous support to Ukraine, taking into account the production capacity of local companies, the deliveries are being assembled and implemented regularly as smaller shipments, the Ministry explained.

The Ministry of Defense will continue to procure Latvian-made combat drones, primarily first-person-controlled FPV drones, until the end of the year.

The procurement amounts are being split into a number of purchases to allow companies to gradually increase production volumes, as well as to allow for adaptation to changing technical specifications in line with Ukrainian requirements.

The Latvia-led Drone Coalition is an international initiative to support Ukraine by providing the necessary drones and spare parts. The Coalition was established to help Ukraine fight Russian aggression and involves several countries including Ukraine, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.

As part of the coalition, countries commit to invest resources in the production, delivery and testing of drones, as well as in the training of troops and other technical solutions. Latvia will contribute at least €10 million per year to the project.
