Latvia's 2025 Eurovision selection process starts today

The last Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden may have taken place just three months ago, but already the hopes of Latvia's songsters can turn to next year's competition.

For it is written that Tuesday, August 20 shall be the start of the next 'Supernova' – Latvia's domestic competition to choose a peormer to send to the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland (the exact location has yet to be confirmed).

Eurovision aspirants can submit their songs via the public media portal LSM for their chance to take part in Supernova and – who knows? – may even find themselves upon an Alp come 2025.

Soloists, duos and groups with no more than six members are invited to enter Supernova. The song submitted for the competition must not have been published, played or performed at public events before September 1, 2024.

Foreigners also have the opportunity to participate in the competition as authors of lyrics, music authors or producers, but the group of authors of the song must not contain more foreigners than citizens of Latvia.

The names of the successful applicants will be announced in November this year, but the live television performances to decide the ultimate Eurovision nominee will not take place until February 2025.

According to Latvian Television, the jury which will evaluate the applications "will include representatives of the Latvian music industry, events and television, as well as foreign professionals" and "the most important factors will be the musicians' vocal ability, potential to compete in the international pop music market, as well as previous achievements in the music industry and potential for future success."

The application form and regulations are available here. Good luck!
