Snikus had won medals before, but it was the first time in his career that he won the laurels of the Paralympic champion.
The judges evaluated the performance of the Latvian horse and rider with a score of 79.167%. Four other competitors started after Snikus, but no one could overtake the Latvian.
The top eight qualifiers started the freestyle dressage competition on Saturday, September 7.
The experienced Snikus is participating in the fourth Paralympic Games of his career. The previous games three years ago in Tokyo were successful for him, bringing home two silver medals, again with with King of the Dance.
Another Paralympic start for Snikus and his horse is scheduled for September 7 in the individual freestyle competition.
